These guys are good, real good. Their self-titled full length album will be out at the end of January, but you can pick up their EP and random songs now. Four dudes hailing from the far reaches of Morningside Heights and the grassy confines of Columbia are bringing Afrobeat-infused indie-pop downtown and they’re bringing it in rumpled Oxfords and Topsiders. A four-piece whose tunes are tightly tangled in South African and British pop sound.
They cite African bands like Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Kanda Bongo Man as pull points, and "Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa" delivers. Of course, these Columbia grads flaunt their Western roots, too: "A-Punk"'s got some Kinks, "Oxford Comma" is like MMJ's Z revisited from Brooklyn. Still haven't seen 'em live, but the reviews have been astounding.
I can't wait to hear the full album, these preppy punks are ready to bring it. Check 'em out. January is going to be a big month for music!
